The The Big Tree Plant project ran between 2012-2015 and helped plant over 143,000 trees all around England. Using the field data collected, demographic data and other spatial data, Groundwork GDS played a big role in communicating project results by developing maps which showed the percentages of trees planted in areas lacking green spaces and in areas of greatest need (based on Index of Multiple Deprivation statistics). The maps and statistics provided were critical in assessing the value of the The Big Tree Plant project and is an example of the added benefit of spatial information for reporting purposes.
